Grans French Toast
This is my mother's recipe with a little twist from me. I watched her make this French Toast without measuring any ingredients. I do the same but will give you some measurements.
Grans French Toast
Ingredients
8 slices of White bread, (Pepperidge Farms Italian Seedless White Bread or a loaf of French Bread from the deli not pre sliced - you want thick slices)
3 large eggs
1/4 cup milk (low fat, 2%, or whole, whatever you have)
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp almond extract
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Cinnamon-Sugar Mix. (see below)
Directions
Preheat your griddle to 350°F.
Cut the bread slices in half or if using French Bread from the deli use whole slices.
With a fork, mix the eggs, milk, sugar and extracts together in a 3 quart bowl.
When the griddle is ready, melt butter on the surface.
Dip the bread slices in the egg mixture, one slice at a time making sure it is soaked through.
Place it on the hot griddle.
Continue with the remaining slices.
Sprinkle the top of the cooking slices with the Cinnamon-Sugar mixture.
Flip the slices when the bottom looks nicely browned. Sprinkle this side with Cinnamon-Sugar.
Enjoy!
Cinnamon-Sugar Mix
Combine 1 part Cinnamon with 3 parts Sugar. For example: 1/4 cup of cinnamon to 3/4 cup of sugar.
I have a shaker just for my Cinnamon-Sugar mixture. This way I always have it ready to go for use in many of my recipes - such as Cinnamon-Sugar Croutons.
