Beer Brats
These Beer Brats are so moist and delicious. Good any time of the year.
Beer Brats
Ingredients
1/2 stick of unsalted butter
1 large onion, divided
2-3 bottles of beer
8 - 10 pork bratwursts, uncooked
8 -10 hoagie rolls
Directions
Preheat the grill.
Melt the butter in a heavy duty Dutch oven.
Cut the onion in half and then cut into half moon slices. Place the onion in the Dutch oven and let cook for about 5 minutes or until translucent.
Add the beer and bring to a simmer. Set aside.
On the grill, place the brats on the grill over indirect heat.
Turn the brats occasionally and let cook for about 20 minutes or almost cooked through - should be a deep brown color.
Remove the brats from the grill and place in the simmering beer and onion mixture.
Bring the liquid back to a boil, reduce the heat to a low simmer with the lid on and cook for about 15 minutes.
Note: If you are going to serve the brats later turn off the heat and leave them in the liquid. You can refrigerate the cooked brats and reheat them in the liquid at a low simmer.
